The Neonatologists
Posted on February 29, 2008
I had the pleasure of taking formal portraits of the Neonatologists from the University of Minnesota Medical Center. For those of you who are not familiar with the term “Neonatologists,” they are the doctors who treat the babies in the NICU & sometimes the Pediactric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). I was excited, but also a little nervous about this job since it was the first of its kind for me. The hospital had to have someone there from their communications department to make sure that I did not get any patients in any of my pictures due to HIPPA privacy restrictions. This was especially tricky since we took the portraits in the main lobby of the Medical Center! I didn’t want to lug my studio lights and backdrop down there, so I made use of the natural lighting coming in through the large windows. I am so happy with how the portraits came out! My husband was there with my reflector to help with some fill light. I don’t normally use one, but I think the results came out beautifully. They are all amazing doctors, and I was delighted to be the ones to take their portraits!

Full Lunar Eclipse
Posted on February 22, 2008
I’m a closet nature photographer, so I love when I can photograph neat things outside. Well, a lunar eclipse is as good as any major natural event.
Since I don’t have a tripod (which I am considering investing in soon), I had to break out my new 70-200 IS lens & my monopod to try and capture this. I know it isn’t the “right” way to do it, but I think I managed to get a decent shot of it. Granted, my ISO was through the roof (3200!). I am surprised that it turned out so nice!
It isn’t too often that we can experience a full, lunar eclipse!

Baby Reagan!
Posted on February 16, 2008
I love photographing babies, especially cute, photogenic ones like little Reagan. She was such a trooper! For only being 3 months old, changing outfits a few times and a quick session, she did fantastic. I was very excited about the shots we got. I mostly liked the tutu that her mom put her in. She told me that when they found out they were having a girl, she knew right away that she needed to find a tutu. It turned out to be harder than she thought! Well, she was finally able to track one down in Blaine. I don’t blame her for making the trek out there for this article of clothing. It was adorable on her! Anyway, take a look at the ones from the session (I had a really hard time choosing!) and feel free to leave a comment for me or baby Reagan & family!
Look at that face!
Ooooo… she outdid herself!
I adored these shots with the tutu. We used the tulle that I have in my studio, laid her in it with the tutu, and these are the results. I love them in color AND black & white!
Oh, and we couldn’t miss the shot of the bow in the back
Mom picked her up after I thought the shooting was complete, but then I noticed that Reagan was really happy and smiling at the camera! Thank goodness I was quick on my feet to capture this moment.
